When it comes to moves, people are often stressed enough. The thought of moving their items across the country, or even across the city, is enough to make them even more anxious.
We at Good Greek Moving & Storage consider it part of our job to give you the best service. That includes helping you find the insurance you need to protect your belongings and set your mind at ease during your move.
The following are some of the reasons why we think moving insurance is a good idea and some of the types you can purchase.
Moving Insurance Brings Peace of Mind
If you hire a professional moving company, you have less to worry about when it comes to your belongings. We at Good Greek Moving & Storage certainly think we fit into that category. But even so, the unexpected can happen. Accidents during moves are not frequent, but they are a possibility. The peace of mind that comes from having all your belongings insured will help make your move less stressful.
Extra Coverage
You will get basic carrier liability from us or any licensed moving company. (It’s required by law, so it’s a major red flag if a company doesn’t offer it, by the way). However, you may want to purchase insurance that gives you more compensation in case of lost or damaged items.
You Have Expensive Items
For high-end items such as art or antiques, people frequently will have extra insurance to protect them against accidents. In some cases, it’s a requirement by the primary insurer.
Long Distance Moves
Unexpected events can happen with any move. But obviously, a long-distance move carries more opportunities for trouble. It’s the same reason you will get insurance on your luggage if you are traveling far. The longer the trip, the better the idea to get insurance.
You’re Not Covered
Many people think that if they are making a move because they are being relocated by their company, they are covered. But in many cases, they are not. Also, most homeowners and renter’s insurance does not provide coverage for your belongings while they are in transit.
Types of Moving Insurance
When it comes to insuring your belongings during a move, you typically have choices from these general areas.
- Basic carrier liability. This is what movers offer. It typically offers up to 60 cents per pound for each item in coverage.
- Full value protection. This coverage typically comes from a third-party company. It covers three different areas: the replacement value for a lost or damaged item; the cost to replace a lost or damaged item with something of equal value; or paying for the repair of an item.
- Separate liability insurance. This also is third-party insurance and typically pays at the level of the value for all your items, minus whatever the mover is paying through basic carrier liability.
Before purchasing anything, check with your current insurers to ensure you are not already paying for moving insurance coverage.
We recommend looking for insurance coverage for the simple reason that the unexpected can happen. We at Good Greek Moving & Storage want out clients to have peace of mind, another way of making the move their Best Move Ever.
