It’s a universal truth that moving can be one of the more frustrating tasks throughout life. However, you can make moving more palatable by making the right decisions. Not only choosing the right moving company such as Good Greek Moving but also organizing and planning your move properly can make your move easier and more efficient. Not knowing which boxes your items are located in or carrying belongings from one room to another can be overwhelming. Labeling your boxes correctly is one method that can greatly ease your experience and improve your moving experience. It can help better organize and speed up the unpacking process.
How to Label Moving Boxes
Pack Room By Room – The labeling process starts from the beginning. Pack each room one by one so that you can label all the boxes in one room so that they can easily be identified and placed in the corresponding room in the new dwelling.
Label Using Colors – After packing boxes in one room, place colored stickers/tape or use colored markers to label the boxes. For example, green can signify the living room while blue means the kitchen. You should also create a matrix so that you can better track the colors and rooms. You should also color label the boxes on at least 3 sides of the boxes to make it easier for the movers to recognize.
Label By Numbers – Also, label your boxes by numbers. Select a number for each room, create a matrix designating a room for each number so that the movers know where to place the boxes. Follow the same method you used for colors.
Label by Priority – Create a priority of boxes that need to be unpacked first such as kitchen items. Label rooms and boxes that need to be opened immediately. Make sure you notate priority both on the matrix and boxes themselves.
Check Your Matrix – Make sure your matrix includes colors, numbers and priority designations. Also, make sure you track the number of boxes for each room.
Additional Tips for Moving
Identify Fragile Boxes – Label boxes that are fragile so that the movers know to be extra careful.
Identify Directional Boxes – Add arrows and directions that say “This End Up” of boxes that contain items that need to be standing up a specific way.
Make it Fun for the Kids – Get your kids involved by allowing them to label the boxes by colors. This will keep the kids busy so they are not distracting you during the moving process.
